Brown’s Field Community Centre is a fantastic ground-floor building in East Chesterton in the north of Cambridge.

The centre has four rooms that you can hire for events, parties and activities. It has step-free access throughout, accessible toilets, and a hearing loop in two rooms. There are baby-changing facilities and free wifi.

Opening hours

The centre is open to the public from 9am to 5pm every Monday to Friday, except on bank holidays.

On weekends and in the evening, the centre is open only for pre-arranged groups and events.

Events and activities

We run some activities and events for the public:

  • Tuesdays, 9.30 to 11.30am: Soft play for children up to 5 years old. You do not need to book, but will need to sign a waiver and must stay to supervise your child.
  • Fridays, 3.30 to 4.30pm: Lego club for ages 4 and older. You do not need to book but must stay to supervise your child.

The centre also hosts many groups and activities each week. Contact us or ask at the centre for more information.

Cambridge Veteran’s Club runs a ‘veterans’ shed’ at the centre on Monday mornings and some Wednesday afternoons. You can access tools and equipment while making new friends.

Public-use rooms

The centre’s four rooms are available to hire when the centre is open. Contact us if you want to hire a room in the evening or on the weekend.

You can hire one or more rooms for your event, party or activity. Discuss your ideas with our experienced team who can help you make your event a success.

Sunshine Hall has a sprung floor, projector, screen and speakers. It’s large enough to seat 50 people, or for 75 standing. There’s a soft-play area that you can hire for parties. The room has a hearing loop.

The Talking Point is a meeting room with projector, screen and speakers. It can seat 16 people, or 25 standing. The room has a hearing loop.

The Secret Garden is a light family room with access to the garden. It can seat 18 people, or 25 standing.

The Wing is a versatile space with projector, screen, speakers and a kitchen. It can be used for meetings or youth groups. It can seat 30 people, or 50 standing.

Soft-play parties for children aged five and under

Celebrate your child’s birthday in the centre’s soft-play area. Your children can jump, roll and play on our colourful soft-play mats and in our ball pit!

A three-hour booking with a two-hour party for children aged five and under can cost as little as £120. Contact us to find out more and book a party.

Party bookings include shared use of the community kitchen and foyer area, but we do not provide refreshments, party bags or prizes. You can use the main kitchen and cooker for an additional charge.

We do not facilitate the parties – you must supervise the children. We will help with setting up and putting away tables and chairs.

Other areas of the community centre are available for parties of up to 50 children.

Public transport and parking

We would like everyone to travel to the centre sustainably.

Milton Road Park & Ride and the guided busway are a short walk away, and the Citi 2 bus stops on Green End Road. Check Traveline for specific Citi bus routes and times.

There are cycle racks in front of the entrance, and a car park with about 15 spaces including one disabled parking space.
