We provide a range of services to support people with disabilities.
Access to and within the city centre
Our Taxicard scheme helps disabled people who live in Cambridge and have a low income to pay for taxi journeys. When you join the scheme, we will give you vouchers that you can use to pay some of the fare for a one-way journey.

If you need help getting around, our Shopmobility service can lend you a mobility aid when you visit the city centre. We recommend that you reserve your equipment in advance.

We have fully accessible Changing Places toilets. Each one has a peninsular toilet with support rails and space for a wheelchair to either side. The rooms have plenty of space for carers and a height-adjustable changing bench and hoist.

Adaptations to your home
The Cambridgeshire Home Improvement Agency (Cambs HIA) provides grants to pay for home adaptations for disabled people. The agency can help you apply for the grant. They can also help you appoint a contractor and oversee the work, even if you are not eligible for the grant.

We also provide home adaptations for council tenants, separate to the Cambs HIA’s work. These usually need an assessment by an occupational therapist.

Keeping active
Our exercise referral service can help you manage your long-term medical condition or disability with a programme of activity. Each programme includes support, assistance and supervision as required from specialist exercise professionals. Your tailored programme might include gym-based exercise sessions, exercise classes, or online courses.

Our Visiting Support service is available for all Cambridge residents aged over 65. It connects people with services that can help them remain independent and socially active. It also makes sure they have access to the care and support they need.
