The Cabinet is the collective decision-making body for all high impact, strategic decisions within the council.
There are 42 elected councillors who represent the 14 Cambridge wards (three councillors per ward). Following the elections in May 2026, there is no political party in overall control of Cambridge City Council.
Seven councillors make up the council Cabinet. Each Cabinet member has lead responsibility for several council services.
Most decisions are taken collectively by Cabinet, but individual lead Cabinet members also have delegated powers to make decisions affecting their service areas where it is practical for them to do so.
