Pay your Council Tax

The easiest way to pay your Council Tax bill is by direct debit. It saves you time and helps us to reduce costs, making more money available to provide other services.

You can choose to pay on either the 5th or 15th day of the month. The direct debit guarantee covers your payments.

Set up a direct debit on our Council Tax portal

You’ll need the online key code from your most recent Council Tax bill to register or log in to the portal.

If you prefer, you can phone us on 01223 457000 to set up a direct debit.

You should continue to pay by your current method until you receive a bill showing details of the direct debit.

Most people pay their Council Tax in 10 monthly instalments, from April to January. If it helps, you can split your bill into 12 instalments instead – phone us to arrange this. Find out more about how to get money off your Council Tax bill.

Other ways to pay

If you prefer to pay every month instead of by direct debit, you can:

You’ll need your Council Tax account number, as well as the account name and address. You'll be given a confirmation number at the end of the transaction.

You can also make individual payments or set up a standing order to:

  • Sort code: 201768
  • Bank account number: 20232696

Use your Council Tax account number as the payment reference. Paying this way can take up to six days to reach us – you must make sure payment reaches us by the due date.
