Cambridge businesses invited to events supporting fair pay and social value

Businesses are being invited to take part in two events exploring how they can work with Cambridge City Council,  support employees , strengthen local communities and create lasting social value.

A Living Wage anniversary breakfast in October will bring together employers, civic leaders and community organisations to celebrate 25 years of the national Living Wage movement and encourage more employers to commit to fair pay.  Later in the year a supplier forum in December  is planned, aimed at existing and prospective Cambridge City Council suppliers, offering practical advice and connections to help them deliver social value through council contracts and future tenders.

Both events will bring together employers, community organisations and public sector partners to share ideas, build relationships and explore ways to make a positive difference to people across the area.

Celebrating 25 years of the Living Wage movement

Employers, civic leaders, community organisations and university partners will gather on Wednesday 21 October to mark 25 years of the Living Wage movement.

Hosted by Anglia Ruskin University in partnership with Cambridge Citizens, the Living Wage Foundation and Cambridge City Council, the breakfast event will recognise the contribution of employers committed to fair pay and explore how organisations can help tackle in-work poverty.

Attendees will hear from speakers across different sectors and take part in a panel discussion about the benefits of Living Wage accreditation, the role employers can play in promoting fair work and the importance of collaboration in building a stronger local economy.

Helping council suppliers deliver real social value

Organisations already supplying or wishing to supply services to Cambridge City Council are invited to a Supplier Social Value Forum on Thursday 10 December.

The forum will connect existing and prospective council suppliers with voluntary, community and social enterprise (VCSE) organisations and specialist providers, helping them identify opportunities to deliver meaningful social value through their contracts.

Attendees will be able to learn about local community needs, explore opportunities for volunteering, apprenticeships and work experience, and discover how to find suitable community projects through Match My Project.

The event will also offer practical advice on delivering and evidencing social value commitments, helping suppliers strengthen their approach for current contracts, renewals and future tender opportunities.

Speakers will include representatives from CRC Apprenticeships, TrAC/FutureIN, South Cambridgeshire District Council and local organisations including CamSight, Liberation Cycle and Jimmy’s.
