Small grants are available for community-focused activities in Darwin Green, Eddington, and Springstead.
Our Community Chest grant provides up to £500 to support projects and events in these new communities.
Previous projects that we have funded include a ‘little library’ (pictured above), a children’s chess tournament and a plant swap.
Eligibility
We can award Community Chest grants to:
- existing groups or projects that want to promote a project or event
- two or more community champions organising a one-off project or event
- new groups that may not yet have a constitution, bank account or formal recognition as a community group. You will need an organisation to hold the funds
You can use the funding to:
- start new community projects or events
- buy equipment that will benefit the local community
- support initiatives that bring people together and strengthen community connections
You cannot use the fund to pay for:
- alcohol or bar fees for events
- equipment that is not integral to the activity
- ongoing running costs
- activities that have already happened or will happen before we release the funds
- promoting or appearing to support a political party or ideology
- activities that promote religion or worship
Your group can only apply for two Community Chest grants in any six-month period.

Applications for the grant are open for as long as the fund lasts.
You must contact us to discuss your application before you apply. We will work with you to support your application and project.
To help us assess your application, it should include an estimate of how many people will benefit and what the community impact will be.
Next steps
If your application is successful, we will transfer the funds to you within six weeks. You must spend the funds within one year.
You must provide a short case study summarising how the funding helped within a month of the project end or event.
