Typical issues discussed at area committees include antisocial behaviour and police priorities, environmental issues and relevant transport consultations.

County councillors from the relevant wards are also invited to attend the meetings as members of the committee.

They take an active part in all discussions and add valuable input and feedback from the perspective of the county council, but they are unable to vote on formal decisions.

No area committees in early 2024

In October 2023, we decided there will be no area committee meetings in the first half of 2024.

We made this decision to consider whether there may be more engaging ways for councillors to hear community issues.

A report back on emerging ideas and options is due to the civic affairs committee in July 2024.
