Annual canvass

Every year, we have a duty to make sure the data we hold in the electoral register is correct and up to date. To do this, we conduct an annual canvass of all households in Cambridge.

This year’s canvass runs from 10 August to 27 November 2026.

Respond to the canvass

You must tell us who at your address should be registered to vote. Only one person in your household needs to respond.

You will need the two-part security code from the email or text message we sent you about the canvass.

Respond to the canvass

We will update the electoral register with the details you confirm or ask you to provide more information if necessary.

If you want to add any new people to the register at your address, they will need to make a full application to register to vote. We will send each new person a form if they do not apply online.

If you have moved away from Cambridge, you can use the ‘respond to the canvass’ link above to tell us.

If you have recently applied to register to vote, you must still respond to the canvass email or text, but you do not need to register to vote again.

If your household does not respond to the canvass, we will attempt to make further contact. This can include one of our electoral canvassing staff visiting your address.

Use of your email address or phone number

We have contacted you by email or text message because you have previously given us your contact details. We only use them to contact you about registration and voting and do not pass them on to anybody else.

You have the right to object to the use of your contact details for the purposes of electoral registration. If you no longer want us to contact you in this way, contact us and ask to unsubscribe.

You can read more about how we use your data in our privacy notice [PDF, 0.2MB], and find out more about elections and voting.
