Abbey Youth Cabin in northeast Cambridge is a dedicated space for clubs and activities for young people.
The cabin hosts regular and one-off youth groups and activities. You can hire it to host your youth club, activity or project for young people aged eight to 24.
It’s on the Abbey Leisure Complex site, near the artificial pitch south of the swimming pool. You can access it through the yellow barrier from the main car park. If you’re arriving across Coldham’s Common, turn left onto Pool Way.
The cabin only opens for reserved sessions – it is not a drop-in centre, and no staff are based there.
Facilities
Abbey Youth Cabin has a main community room of 40m2 and a small meeting room. It can accommodate up to 24 people per session, including those running it.
There is a large TV with HDMI connections in the community room, and wifi throughout.
There are tables and chairs for up to 20 people, which can be used in either room or folded and stacked if not needed.
The cabin also has an accessible toilet and a small kitchen. The kitchen has:
- a fridge, microwave, kettle and toaster
- cutlery and crockery for 25 people
- cleaning and washing-up equipment
Hiring the cabin
You can hire Abbey Youth Cabin to host a club, activity or project for young people aged eight to 24. We do not currently hire the cabin for birthday parties.
If you charge young people to join your session, there is a £10 per hour charge to hire the cabin.
The cabin is available at the following times:
- Monday to Friday: 7am to 9pm
- Saturday and Sunday: 8am to 5pm
To request hiring the cabin, check the calendar to see whether it is available when you want to use it. Select the + icon on your preferred date to open the request form. Please make sure to tell us what your booking is for.

When we receive your request, we will contact you to arrange payment, and to ask for further details if we need them. If necessary, we will request safeguarding documentation to help ensure the participants’ safety.
Public transport and parking
The number 3 bus stops on Stanesfield Road, a few minutes’ walk from Abbey Leisure Complex.
The leisure centre has racks for over 70 cycles, and free car parking including six disabled spaces.
Information for hirers
Entry to the cabin
Collect the key to the front door from the leisure centre reception desk.
The keys to the meeting room and kitchen are kept in the cabin.
Kitchen
We do not provide and food or drink at the cabin. The kitchen has no cooking facilities apart from the fridge, microwave, kettle and toaster.
You are welcome to bring pre-prepared food or cold items you would like to prepare on site.
Please contact us if any of the cleaning equipment is running out.
Tidying and locking up
Please leave the cabin ready for the next group to use.
- Tidy the tables and chairs and wipe them clean if necessary.
- Sweep the floors and wash up in the kitchen.
- Remove any food and drink from the fridge.
- Take all your rubbish with you, or you might incur a charge for leaving rubbish.
- Turn off all lights and appliances including heaters and air conditioning.
- Lock all doors and windows and return the keys to the leisure centre reception desk.
The leisure centre cleaning team attends the cabin during the week. They will report any issues to us.
Emergencies
The cabin does not have any first-aid facilities. The leisure centre is fully equipped, and you can bring your own first-aid kit.
The cabin has a smoke alarm. If a fire breaks out, it is your responsibility to alert the emergency services via 999 and the leisure centre. The leisure centre staff will ensure the gates are open so the emergency services can access the cabin.
- The assembly point is in the main car park opposite the leisure centre entrance.
- The alarm panel is in the community room – do not silence the alarm until the emergency services arrive.
If you need assistance for a non-life-threatening emergency such as a water leak, contact the leisure centre reception desk.
