Wellbeing walks

Physical activity is good for both your mental and physical health, and walking is a great way to be active. It provides opportunities to chat to other people and explore your community. And most importantly, it makes us feel good!

We have developed a programme of short, friendly group walks that can help you become and stay active.

The walks are free to join, and everybody is welcome. A trained volunteer leads each one.

Each walk will be different in length and may be more suited to some than others. They proceed at a leisurely pace and include rests.

We developed the walks with local community groups and organisations.

Booking a walk

You do not need to book in advance for any wellbeing walk. However, some walks are available to pre-book via Bookwhen.

Booking in advance will provide you with more information on meeting locations, and will also enable us to contact you should a last-minute cancellation take place.

Other walking opportunities

We have set up tree trails to celebrate and promote our local trees. The trails, at Cherry Hinton Hall and at the Accordia site off Brooklands Avenue, are about 1.5km long.

Visit the Ramblers website to find out more about wellbeing walks around Cambridge and further afield.

Mental Health Mates is a network of peer support groups, run by people who experience their own mental health issues. They meet regularly to walk, connect and share without fear or judgement.

Set up a walk for your community group or organisation’s users

We are trialling a workshop for community groups and organisations that work to improve residents’ health and wellbeing. ‘Connect Through Walking’ will help your group to set up and lead safe and accessible group walks.

The workshop is free to attend. It takes place in person and lasts three hours. It’s suitable for people such as:

  • social prescribing link workers
  • health and wellbeing coaches
  • community workers
  • community group volunteers

The workshop will cover:

  • sharing experiences of walking
  • physical, social and mental wellbeing benefits of walking
  • health and safety considerations for leading a walk
  • exploring ways to integrate social walks into existing offers

We also provide a ‘toolkit’ to help you run your walks.

If you're interested in attending the workshop, complete the expression of interest form. We will send you further information when dates and times are confirmed.
