Every year we have to remove about 250 trees, either due to old age or because they have become a health and safety risk.
We try to plant more trees than we remove, with a focus on replacing trees that we had to remove recently.
We usually plant trees between November and the end of March. When planting trees, we concentrate on specific areas of the city at a time. We cover each ward once every three years.

Suggest a location for planting a new tree
Let us know if you think you have found a good spot for us to plant a new tree.
You might think the open space near where you live needs more tree cover. Or perhaps you’d like to see more greenery on your street.
The only condition is that it must be council-owned land – if it’s private land, speak to the person who owns it instead.
We cannot fulfil every request, either because of technical or funding restrictions, or as the result of a consultation. But we’re happy to consider all your suggestions.
