A by-election for Cambridge City Council is taking place this Thursday 12 September in the Romsey ward – and if you are intending to vote in person remember that you will need to show valid photo ID.
A variety of different forms of photo ID are acceptable, including passport, driver’s licence, blue badge, older or disabled person’s bus pass, Proof of Age Standards Scheme (PASS) card, the new Voter Authority Certificate and many more.
Original documents must be provided as photocopies or copies of images on mobile phones or other electronic devices will not be accepted. People can use acceptable photo ID even if it has expired, as long as the photograph still resembles them.
Anyone arriving at the polling station without acceptable photo ID will be advised to leave the polling station and return with one of the acceptable forms of ID before a ballot paper can be issued to them.
For the complete list of acceptable forms of ID, what to do if you have lost or damaged your ID, and for other information about voter ID, visit www.cambridge.gov.uk/voter-id-in-polling-stations
Polling stations will be open in Romsey ward from 7am-10pm on Thursday. For this election only, voters who would normally vote at the Romsey Mill polling station will be voting at Mill Road Baptist Church as the usual venue is not available.
Information about which polling station to use is printed on polling cards, or can be found online at wheredoivote.co.uk. Information about the candidates in the by-election can be found at whocanivotefor.co.uk.
The election count takes place following the close of the polls. The result will be posted on the council’s website www.cambridge.gov.uk and on social media.
Vicky Jenner, Deputy Returning Officer for the by-election, said: “Remember you’ll need to bring a valid form of photo ID in order to vote in person – and if you have any questions or need any assistance while you are at the polling station, just ask a member of staff who will be happy to help.”
