We have secured planning approval to build four new semi-detached, three-bedroom homes in Trumpington.
The new homes will be built on the site of 34 council-owned garages at Paget Road, adding to the mix of sustainable residential properties in this part of Cambridge, and helping to address the need for good-quality modern housing in the city.
Each new home will be sustainably built to target Passivhaus Low Energy Building standards, with photovoltaic solar panels on the roof, plus mechanical ventilation heat recovery units and air source heat pumps.
The sustainable design means they are highly energy efficient with ultra-low energy consumption, with excellent air quality providing residents with thermal comfort at minimal cost and with particular benefits for those living with allergies and asthma.
Each property will have its own private garden and the fully landscaped Paget Road site will aim to boost biodiversity by 30%.
The proposals are part of our Small Sites Programme, which is looking to provide a variety of much-needed new housing in Cambridge, by developing small plots of land owned by the council, such as garage sites.
While the planning decision does not require any affordable housing on a development of this size, current council approvals indicate these homes will be affordable rented council housing. The council’s wider house-building programme delivers new homes through a variety of tenures, to help address wider housing supply issues in the city.
The proposals for the Paget Road site were approved by Cambridge City Council’s Planning Committee on 7 August.
