Extra chances to win through council's anti-littering campaign with LitterLotto

Cambridge residents and visitors who use the LitterLotto app this summer will be entered into a special prize draw to mark Love Parks Week, the national celebration which highlights the importance of green spaces in boosting the health and wellbeing of residents and communities.

Residents and visitors taking part in Cambridge City Council’s anti-littering campaign with LitterLotto during July and August will be entered into two special prize draws to win an additional £75 for Love Parks Week.

The LitterLotto campaign encourages residents and visitors to help keep Cambridge clean and put rubbish in bins instead of littering, by offering monthly prizes. The council launched the campaign locally last November and it has seen almost 28,000 pieces of litter binned in the first six months through the app. Twelve prizes have been awarded so far.

Residents and visitors who want to get involved need to download the LitterLotto app, where they will be able to photograph and submit an entry each time they put litter in one of the council-provided litter bins across the city. Each submission counts as an entry.

Every submission also automatically enters users into the normal monthly prize draw where they could win a £50 Love Cambridge gift card provided by Cambridge BID, or £100 cash. They also enter the national weekly prize draws managed by LitterLotto, offering a range of other prizes including £1,000 cash.

Cllr Martin Smart, Executive Councillor for Open Spaces and City Services, said: “It’s great to see so much litter being binned responsibly. I’d encourage everyone to take part in LitterLotto and help look after the city so everyone can take pride in Cambridge.

“Litter makes the city look untidy, costs money to clean up and is harmful to wildlife. Keeping Cambridge clean is something that we can all play an active part in, and now with LitterLotto there’s the bonus of being able to win prizes for simply popping your rubbish in a bin!”

Becky Burrell, Director of Operations & Development at Cambridge BID, said: “Cambridge BID are delighted to support such an initiative. Encouraging people to dispose of their litter responsibility supports the work that we do to ensure Cambridge is a nice place to live, visit or work. We all need to take pride in our city, and this project is one way to reward those that work hard to look after Cambridge.”

David Landsberg, Founder and CEO of LitterLotto, said: "Myself and the team at LitterLotto (powered by peasy) are blown away by the support of the people across Cambridge for helping to keep their city free of litter! Every piece of litter that is binned really does make a huge impact to the local environment which everyone in the community will benefit from, so a huge thank you and a big thank you to Cambridge City Council for their innovative approach to help reduce litter!"
