This summer we are coordinating a programme of free activities and events that will take place across the city.
There is something for every age group, including events for the whole family to take part in. Highlights include the free Music in the Parks Sunday series, the Out of the Ordinary Festival, and three special National Play Day events.
The programme will be a mixture of bookable activities and those where people can just turn up on the day. The wide range of activities will take place across multiple locations in the city, including community centres and open spaces.
The Active Family sport and activity sessions take place weekly on Tuesdays, and offer a chance to try archery, dance, orienteering, skating, and much more, for free, with other sessions offering free play zones and arts and crafts activities.
There is also a holiday lunch network in Cambridge which aims to provide free lunches and activities for nursery and school-aged children and their families during school holidays. The network is supported by Cambridge City Council and Cambridge Sustainable Food. These are provided in a variety of settings across the city.
Cllr Rachel Wade, Executive Councillor for Communities, said: “The summer holidays can be a tricky time for parents who need to figure out how to keep their children entertained. It is great that we are able to offer so many free activities across the city for everyone to enjoy.
“Finding ways to entertain children isn’t the only tricky part of the summer – during the school break food bills can increase causing financial strain to some parents which is why the holiday lunch network is so important.
“There’s also plenty on offer for everyone, from the Music in the Parks to the Out of the Ordinary Festival. I hope to see people take the opportunity to come together with family and friends to make the most of what’s on in our community centres and open spaces over the summer.”
