The Green Business Programme helps businesses to reduce their carbon footprint, increase energy efficiency and work towards net zero.
The programme was launched in October 2023 and is now closed for applications.
The programme aims to support local small to medium businesses. To receive support, organisations must have between 3 and 250 employees. They must have commercial premises in Cambridge, Huntingdonshire or South Cambridgeshire.
The programme will support organisations to understand their current carbon emissions. It will help them develop a five-year net zero roadmap to help their sustainability journey.
The programme will also deliver grant funding to some of these businesses. Up to £15,000 each will be available to help them implement energy efficiency-related improvements.
Programme organisation and funding
The programme was created by the following organisations:
- Cambridge City Council
- Huntingdonshire District Council
- South Cambridgeshire District Council
- Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Growth Hub
- Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Combined Authority
Local experts Allia and PECT are working with the councils and the Growth Hub to deliver the programme.
Allia is responsible for managing the grant aspect of the programme. They will also help eligible businesses secure funding for carbon-reducing technology, equipment, or sustainable enhancements.
PECT, a sustainability charity based in Peterborough, is responsible for the technical elements of the programme. They will provide expertise and guidance to help businesses develop their own net zero roadmap.
The programme is funded by the UK Shared Prosperity Fund, part of the government’s Levelling Up agenda. The fund provides £2.6 billion of local investment by March 2025. It aims to increase life chances across the UK by investing in communities and supporting local businesses and people.
