The Friends of Histon Road Recreation Ground instigated this project to improve the entrances to the park.
Public art studio Dallas Pierce Quintero worked with local children on the project. They held a number of workshops in local schools, inviting the children to act as the commissioner of the work. The children explored the history of the park and helped to select themes to develop.
The children chose the ‘flocking birds’ design, which marks the park entrances with three sculptures resembling flocks of descending birds.
The park was originally a tree nursery. The species of birds were chosen to reflect those that would have frequented the area at that time.
