Extra recycling

If you have more recycling than will fit in your bin, you can leave it out next to your bin on collection day.

We will collect one transparent sack of recycling.

  • We will not collect black or coloured sacks, or any more than one sack.
  • For safety reasons, do not put glass in the sack - that should always go in your blue bin.

We will also collect one bundle of cardboard, taped or tied together.

  • Do not leave cardboard out in the rain, as it sticks to other materials when wet, which makes it hard to recycle.

Both the sack and the bundle of cardboard should be able to fit in the bin with the lid closed if there was space.

We’ll prioritise emptying a bin at each property over collecting extra recycling if there are delays on collection day. Delays can be caused by vehicle breakdown, roadworks, or a high volume of recycling on the day.

If you often put out extra recycling, you can request an extra blue bin.

Please note that failure to comply with the council's requirements for setting out waste and recycling for collection could result in a fixed penalty.

The household duty of care placed on you can be found set out in the Environmental Protection Act 1990 Section 34 (2A) and Section 5 of the Waste Duty of Care: Code of Practice.
