Energy Performance Certificates give a property an energy-efficiency rating from A to G. A rating of ‘A’ indicates the property is very efficient.
Certificates contain:
- information about the property’s energy use and typical energy costs
- recommendations about how to reduce energy use and save money
Private landlords must provide tenants with a certificate for their property. They must do so free of charge and at the earliest opportunity, before granting or renewing a tenancy.
Landlords must ensure their property has a rating of at least E before they can grant or renew a tenancy.
Certificates are valid for 10 years and can be reused within that period.
