You can get a council tax discount if you:
- are a paid apprentice. Your salary must be no greater than £195 per week (gross) and must be less than what you would earn once qualified;
- are training for an NVQ, or;
- are unpaid on a youth training programme. You must be under 25 and on a government recognised youth training programme.
We’ll need proof of your training course such as certification of studies, and proof of income and job status from your employer if you’re an apprentice.
Exemptions
If you live in a property where all or the only resident(s) is under 18 years of age, your residence is exempt from council tax. This means you won't have to pay council tax, until one of the residents becomes 18 years old, or someone else, who is 18 or over, moves into the property.
Appealing our decision
