The Police and Crime Commissioner makes sure the police service is efficient and effective. They hold the police to account, making them answerable to the public. They also set the police’s objectives and budgets.
A Police and Crime Panel considers, in public, how the commissioner does all this. The panel includes representatives from local councils and two independent members.
