Summer events

We run and support a variety of free events and activities for local communities every summer.

In 2023 we ran sports sessions, music concerts, family activities and more. We have begun organising this year’s events, so keep checking this page for details.

Armed Forces Day Military Fair

Armed Forces Day is on Saturday 29 June. The city’s first Armed Forces Day Military Fair will take place on Parker’s Piece from 11am to 5pm.

The event is open to everyone wanting to celebrate and find out more about the armed forces. Events and activities will include re-enactments, a fly-by, and a marching band.

The event is being organised by the Cambridge Armed Forces and Veterans Breakfast Club and the Cambridge Veterans Club. We and local businesses are supporting it.

2024 Refugee Week concert: Voices of Hope and Compassion

The concert is organised by Helen Weinstein, and hosted by Michael Rosen, alongside choirs, poets, musicians, drama and dance groups who have been involved in the education and arts programme.

  • Sunday 30 June 2024, 4 to 5.30pm (arrive by 3.45pm to be seated for 4pm)
  • Corn Exchange, Wheeler Street, CB2 3PQ
  • Free event: no need to register

Everyone is welcome, but please note that children under the age of nine should only attend at the discretion of adults in their family who can follow-up and guide them through discussion of the issues they will hear and learn about during the event.

Active Family sports and activity sessions

Join us with your family and friends every Tuesday in the summer holiday for free, fun activities.

Local clubs will lead sessions of archery, dance, orienteering, skating, and much more. Or you can make your own fun in the family play zone. There will be something for people of all abilities. We’ll be available to provide information about how to get active.

All events run from 10am to 2pm. We recommend you wear comfortable clothes and footwear, and bring water, snacks and a picnic blanket.

Music in the Parks

Music in the Parks is a program of free Sunday afternoon concerts which take place in parks throughout the city.

The series of six concerts offer an array of live music and are open to all.

Each concert will take place from 3 to 5pm. All events include toilet facilities and some chairs, but you're encouraged to bring your own if possible. We recommend picnics and deck chairs.

Cambridge Folk Festival

The 59th edition of the Cambridge Folk Festival will host some of Folk's most world-renowned acts and the upcoming acts of the future.

Mayor's Day Out

The Mayor's Day Out has been an annual event for over three decades, with thousands of Cambridge’s over 55s having visited seaside destinations by coach.

This summer’s event takes place on Wednesday 14 August, with the traditional seaside town of Great Yarmouth the destination.

Tickets are on sale until Friday 5 July and can be booked:

Out of the Ordinary Festival

On Saturday 24 and Sunday 25 August, a range out outdoor artists will provide music, dance, physical theatre, visual comedy and aerial displays across the city centre.

Performances will take place in front of the Guildhall and on Sidney Street, Petty Cury, Market Hill, and in our new festival garden at Christ's Pieces.
