What you can do to make sure that the area where you live is as safe as possible

Padlock

Please report any incidents of crime to the police.

Please also make sure that your home is secure.

We work with the police and other groups to make sure that the environment you live in is as safe as possible.

To reduce the risk of crime, you should:

  • not keep large amounts of money at home
  • never leave your car unlocked
  • always lock your home securely, even if you are only out for a few minutes
  • always ask to see some identification if someone visits you - remember, genuine callers will always be able to show you identification
  • consider joining a Neighbourhood Watch scheme, if there is one in your area
  • make sure that shared doors in blocks of flats are kept locked
  • report broken street lights (please make a note of the light number), graffiti, squatters or vandalism on your estate to us
  • support Car Watch (you can get more information from the police)
  • tell your housing office if you leave your home empty for a period of time
