May Ball handbook

Public safety at May Balls and June events

Couples at a ball

The May Ball handbook has been produced by the council's environmental health service and Cambridgeshire Fire and Rescue to assist organisers of May Balls and June events in:

  • making their entertainments run smoothly for the benefit of those attending
  • ensuring adequate public safety
  • ensuring unreasonable disturbance is not caused to local residents

The organisation of a May Ball is complex and time consuming. The handbook comprises general advice with a series of appendices on specific areas.

The law on licensing has changed. This means that colleges will need to hold a Premises Licence that includes the ball.
