We aim to work with landlords to ensure that they receive payments promptly. We can pay your tenant's Housing Benefit entitlement directly to you, provided that your tenant agrees or if they are more than eight weeks in arrears with their rent payment.
If you accept direct payment from us you may be required to pay back the money if your tenant receives Housing Benefit to which they are not entitled.
Read more on the overpayments page.
A landlord has a duty to inform the benefits office if a tenant leaves their property, or if they know of any other change of circumstance that may affect their tenant's benefit.
We ask landlords to respect our obligations towards claimant confidentially and the Data Protection Act when they make enquiries about their tenants.
